Summer Hill Documentary
A documentary about a small African American community in Cartersville, Georgia during the segregation era.

January 2006
Dear friends and family,
I'm excited to announce that my 30-minute documentary, "Summer Hill," has now been picked up by over 80% of the public television stations in the U.S., including the large-market stations in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and others. Hopefully, this means you can all watch it! The initial airings of the program will be next month (Feb. '06).
"Summer Hill" is the inspirational story of a remarkable African American community in Cartersville, Georgia. During the segregation era, the small Summer Hill School and its surrounding community nurtured four generations of black Americans and produced Georgia's first black Supreme Court justice; a famous Motown song-writer; teachers, ministers, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals; and many others who made major contributions to their home town and to the larger society. In this documentary, the remarkable people of Summer Hill tell their story -- and share with us their enduring values and philosophy of life.
I hope you'll plan to watch "Summer Hill." Here in Georgia, it will air:
Feb. 10, 8:00 p.m. on WPBA Atlanta
Feb. 20, 11:30 p.m. on WPBA Atlanta
Feb. 24, 7:30 p.m. on Georgia Public Broadcasting
If you live in another state, you can log on to www.pbs.org/tvschedules.
On this site, you can search for "Summer Hill" by name and find air times for your local station. (NOTE: The listings on the PBS site may not be complete until the end of January.) You can also check local listings or call your local station to get air times for "Summer Hill." Below, please see the list of stations who will be airing "Summer Hill."
You may also want to log on to my web site, www.livingstories.tv, which is featuring "Summer Hill" right now. There's a link on the site to the Kennesaw State University history project on the Summer Hill community. Prof. LeeAnn Lands is the one who brought me into this and introduced me to these wonderful folks.
Thanks for your interest and support. I hope you have a meaningful and prosperous New Year!
